Stock AvailabilityWe currently hold about ｣15 million worth of physical stock, the bulk of this being housed in our 100,000 sq. ft. head office warehouse facility in Biggleswade, Beds. In order to process this stock, we have over 30 saws designed to cut many different products. We can cut in house anything from 0.3 mm thick copper strip to 20" diameter nickel bar; from light wall aluminium tubes to titanium and stainless steel plates. Items are delivered on our own transport fleet of over 50 vehicles, nationwide.
Smiths Innovation Centre is our freshly expanded in-house test facility , which enables us to a number of tests in technical support of our customers. In turn the Center s supported by a team of our own metallurgists. This means that we are able to guide and advise on alloy selection/performance/ availability from design through to bulk production.
We operate a bespoke supply system known as SMI ( supplier managed inventory ), which means that we can work in partnership with our customers in helping to significantly reduce their costs. I t has proved to be a means of dramatically improving supply chain efficiency. We also have our own IT platform known as " Goldeneye ", which has been developed by our directors and our own IT department. Combined with our "key supplier programme", which produces reliability and continuity from our chosen suppliers, and our robust quality management system, the net result gives Smiths Advanced Metals strength and flexibility that others cannot approach. All this is, in turn, passed on to our customers in terms of ultimate business efficiency.
